Describe how electric fields and magnetic fields are similar

Describe how electric fields and magnetic fields are similar and how they are different. An electric field is a field of force, surrounding a charged particle, while a magnetic field is a field of force surrounding a permanent magnet, or a moving charged particle. When a charge is moving, it does not only have an electric field, but a magnetic field as well. This is why electric and magnetic fields are always associated with each other. They are two different fields, but not a totally separate field. Electric and magnetic fields are perpendicular to each other.

  • Indicate if each of the following statements is correct or incorrect.

[A] Electric fields are caused by electric charges.
[B] Moving electric charges cause magnetic fields.
[C] Direct electric current is used in transformers.
[D] Most housing is wired using parallel circuits.
