In order to gain insight into the management strategy related to motivating employees, you will utilize Raytheon Technologies as a focus company and review their What We Do and News sections, which will help you better understand their business. Assume that you were just hired as a manager in the Collins Aerospace unit with responsibility for a group of longtime employees who are unmotivated.

You would like to generate interest in your initiatives and projects and need to determine how to best motivate each employee. You understand that their experience with the previous manager was negative. They were not supportive, their directions were unclear, and their feedback was always negative. The employees essentially "gave up" on having goals because they thought that they did not matter. Respond to the following questions:

I. In order to address this issue, you decide to first look at the content of what could motivate each employee. Discuss methods for motivating employees based on their needs by addressing the following:

i. Describe the Manifest Needs theory. Next, select two social motives identified by Henry Murray that you believe could apply to your workers. Indicate how you could help facilitate the attainment of these social motives so that the employees are motivated to work in a productive manner.

ii. Describe the Learned Needs theory. Next, select two learned needs identified by David McClelland that you believe could apply to your workers. Indicate how you could help facilitate the attainment of these learned needs so that the employees are motivated to work in a productive manner.

iii. Describe Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Next, identify a need related to each of the five levels that you believe could apply to your workers. Indicate how you could help facilitate the attainment of these needs so that the employees are motivated to work in a productive manner.

iv. Describe Herzberg's Motivator-Hygiene theory. Next, identify two motivators and two hygiene factors that you believe could apply to your workers. Indicate how you could help facilitate the attainment of these motivators and hygiene factors so that the employees are motivated to work in a productive manner.

II. After looking at the content aspects, you look at the processes involved related to how a person becomes motivated. Describe processes involved in the initiation of motivational behavior by addressing the following:

i. Describe the Operant Conditioning Theory. Next, provide one example of a positive reinforcement and one example of a negative reinforcement. Indicate under which conditions each one could be appropriate. Finally, select two reinforcement schedules and indicate how you could apply each in order to reinforce the employees' effective behavior.

ii. Describe the Equity Theory. Next, provide one example of an input and one example of an output related to the employees in your work group. How does an employee utilize this information in evaluating equity? Finally, describe the two types of inequity that could exist with your employees.

iii. Describe Goal Theory. Next, provide two examples of goals that could apply to your workers. Indicate how you could inspire the employees to develop a meaningful goal commitment and how you could facilitate the attainment of their goals so that they are motivated to work in a productive manner.

iv. Describe Expectancy Theory. Next, explain the difference between effort-performance and performance-outcome expectancies and how the related perceptions could impact the motivation of your employees to work in a productive manner.
