Problem: There are multiple reasons why the United States chose to fight in Vietnam. Professor Daniel Bell argued that the roots of American intervention were planted and nurtured in America's concept of its own "exceptionalism." Some have argued that imperialism drove the United States to meddle in Vietnam's affairs. Others have argued it was out of a fear of the spread of communism that America intervened in Vietnam.
