Part I: At the end of this module, the student will be able to:
• Describe cognitive functioning in older adulthood
• Discuss common age-associated changes in intelligence, learning and memory
• Describe different theories of personality and the factors that promote resilient and positive aging
• Demonstrate knowledge of the different types of mental disorders among some older adults, risk factors and treatment for such diseases
Part II: At the end of this module, the student will be able to:
• Explain the four biological theories of aging
• Enumerate the normal physiological changes associated with aging, including changes in organ and sensory systems
• Define good health, disability, and terms that measure that impact of disability on functioning
• Identify the most common chronic diseases faced by older adults
• Analyze accidents as a cause of death for older adults
• Compare the usage of physician services among older adults
• Identify health promotion programs and strategies to maintain optimum well-being in older adulthood.
