Learning Outcomes:
1: Describe and evaluate the technologies used to implement digital electronic circuits.
2: Describe and analyze a range of digital subsystems, hence establishing the building blocks for larger systems.
You are a senior engineer at ABC company, which specializes in designing digital circuits and devices. The company has recently purchased a batch of ICs through a new supplier, who manufactures at a very low cost and therefore had not provided standard part numbers on the devices. Your manager wants you to:
- Run tests using lab equipment to confirm which are CMOS and which are TTL and document it with justification.
- It is best that you design a few simple circuits such as Half-adders and Full-adders to ensure the functionality of the ICs. You should provide truth tables and schematics to support your experimental findings.
- Run appropriate tests on CMOS and TTL ICs to evaluate their standards against the industry standards.
You are free to choose the ICs of your choice for the above tests
After completing the above series of tests, you should conduct a training programme for your junior technicians. As part of this training you are supposed to either show them as an example how an ALU comprises of Adders (with 2's compliment subtraction), Multipliers (as a recursive Adder with a counter) as such or Data Transmission systems comprising of multiplexers, shift registers and serial communication subsystems. Your training programme will benefit with the inclusion of more subsystems to give your technicians a better understanding of the range of possibilities and choices.
