Discussion 1 : Read the News
Readers determine if they will read a story based on the headline. Once a reader begins reading an article, they will decide within the first two paragraphs if they will finish the article.
Read your local newspaper following the suggestions from Chapter Seven. You may use the website United States Newspapers to locate a local newspaper.
Share the headlines in the newspaper that caught your attention. Did you read the articles? Did you start reading a story and then stop? Why or why not? Explain how a good writer captures and keeps the attention of the reader..

Discussion 2 : Inverted Pyramid Structure
Describe an inverted pyramid news story. What are the reasons that a journalist would use this structure for an article? Why do most feature stories not use this type of structure?
