Describe Adding and Subtracting Square Roots?
To add or subtract square roots, the radicands must be the same. If the radicands are the same, add/subtract the coefficients (the numbers outside the radical signs).
Examples:
√7+ √7 = 2√7
√2 + 3√2 = 4√2
Note: Assume the coefficient is 1 for square roots that have no coefficient. For example p √3 = 1√3
√2 +2√2 ≠ √2 and √2 + 2√2 ≠ 3 √2
Note: Always be sure to simplify the square roots first, because sometimes two square roots might not look the same, but they really are.
