The food industry, like any industry, ideally operates on the principle of efficiency to achieve the goal of maximum profit. According to Food, Inc. the pursuit of efficiency and profit can have negative impacts on animals, which serve as inputs into the production process and on humans, who participate in the process as both labor and consumers of the food products.
