Descrbe about Arithmetic and Geometric Sequences?
When numbers are listed according to a particular pattern, we call the list a sequence. In a sequence, the numbers are separated by commas.
Each number in a sequence is called a term.
Example 1:
2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, ...
The pattern is add 2 to the previous term.
A sequence in that you always add or subtract the same number is called an arithmetic sequence.
Example 2:
2, 6, 18, 54, 162, ...
The pattern is multiply the previous term through 3.
A sequence in that you always multiply or divide by the same number is known as a geometric sequence.
