You work under the delegation and supervision of an Allied Health Professional (AHP). Your AHP, Bobby Z. a physiotherapist, has completed an initial assessment with Arjun after his surgery. He has assessed his stability, ability to weight bear, and his falls risk in order to determine an appropriate falls prevention strategy. He delegates you the task of providing support in the use of a mobility aid and gives you the following information: Arjun, a 48-year-old builder, has been admitted to hospital following a fall at a construction site. He slipped on wet flooring and landed on his right side. X-rays confirmed a right hip fracture (fractured neck of femur) Arjun had an intramedullary nail inserted and is recovering well Arjun is experiencing some tenderness and swelling around his right hip, with limited range of motion and difficulty bearing weight on the affected leg. His balance is currently affected due to pain. Arjun is anxious and impulsive, and has been found walking unaided, wearing slippers or slides on several occasions, despite being told he must use a mobility aid at all times for the 6 weeks post-surgery. He has been prescribed pain relief to alleviate discomfort, facilitate mobility, and support proper walking mechanics during the healing process.
