In this paper I want you to discuss three qualities of leadership that you exercise in two roles. The questions below are meant to guide your discussion:
1. Choose two important roles in your life
2. Define the leadership qualities you wish to discuss. For example, if you select self-awareness, or locus of control, or emotional intelligence, or creative problem solving, or abstract learner, or Incubator - tell me what you mean by this. Cite the text when you draw definitions from the book.
3. Do you exercise the quality of leadership in both roles? In the same ways? Explain why and how.
4. Do you have greater success in demonstrating a leadership quality in one role over another? How can you learn from your successes in one role and draw upon these resources to help you in other areas of your life?
5. As you look at the similarities and differences across your roles, for example, as a musician and a manager, do you draw a different understanding of yourself? Can you identify new goals for your personal growth?
Some questions to help think about this paper:
For example, i.e. if you motivate others, or if that is your purpose - what are the challenges and successes across roles
How do you bring about collaborative problem-solving at work or at home? How could this approach help a stuck situation now? How might you go about setting this up?
How does your own self-awareness help you to manage emotionally charged situation? What is your sensitive line? How do you create healthy boundaries so that you protect your 'sensitive line'? How do you use the skill of empathy to guide your interactions with others.
How do you problem solve to come up with an innovative solution at work, at home, at school?
What is an example of analytic problem solving that you have used to help you in your life work or life plan? Did you expand the problem definition by asking questions from different points of view? Did you generate multiple alternatives? Did you evaluate all of them before making a decision?
