Define civility as being respectful, polite, and considerate

Problem:

I define civility as being respectful, polite, and considerate towards others. It consists of treating individuals well and communicating in a certain way that helps promote cooperation and true understanding. This is extremely important in nursing collaboration which will assist in building trust, improving teamwork, promoting a positive learning environment, and encouraging ethical practice. Essentially, civility helps to create a trusting environment and when students and faculty treat one another with respect, everyone is more likely to feel comfortable and safe to share ideas and concerns. As the article mentioned, the clinical nurse instructor criticized the student right in front of the patient. In this situation, the clinical instructor acted not only disrespectfully but also showed unprofessional behavior, especially at the bedside with the patient.
