Problem:
This behaviour could lead to dangerous situations for the community and the police (Inwald, Knatz & Shusman, 1987). This is crucial, as police officers have the responsibility and discretion to use force and weapons, such as firearms and tasers, if considered reasonable (Henson et al., 2010). If the requirement for psychological evaluation is eliminated, police officers with psychological disorders or those who are considered incapable of coping with the emotional and mental stress caused by the police would be given this responsibility, leading to the potential loss of innocent lives. Therefore, this paper recommends Commissioner Devile's proposal to eliminate the completion or partial completion of tertiary education for police recruits be granted. Although Commissioner Devile's proposal to eliminate the requirement for psychological evaluation of police recruits should be denied.
