People seem to be really bad about recognizing risk and dangers. Many people will buy flight insurance when flying is one of the safest activities they can engage in. They are much more likely to die on the way to the airport. Many people are terrified of nuclear power yet so far there have been fewer than 100 people who have died in nuclear accidents. We seem oblivious to the fact that every year somewhere between ten and twenty thousand people will die because of illness caused by burning coal or oil to produce power.
Currently politicians present us with the non-choice between terrorism and Climate Change or Global Warming (GW). How does the risk of a terrorist attack in the US compare with the almost certain effects of GW?
