Assignment Task 1: Is There a Doctor in the House? Attracting Physicians for an Underserved Area
1. Briefly describe the current challenges for recruiting medical practitioners in all regions of Ontario and the current recruitment process and practices of the Health Services Recruitment (HSR) Office.
2. Make two to three recommendations for the betterment of the current recruitment process and practices to the director of Health Services Recruitment. What are your grounds for the recommendations?
3. Do you think your recommendations with the current process and practices of the HSR office would fulfill the performance criteria of potential applicants discussed in this case?
4. How will your recommendations differentiate from the recruitment strategies employed by other regions in Canada and the United States (refer to Appendix 1)?
Assignment Task 2: Case Study: Southwood School-Recruitment and Selection
1. Based on your understanding of the selection process of Southwood School and the HR manager's review of the school's selection methods, identify five key issues in the selection process and/or methods of the school.
2. Why do you think these issues deter the effectiveness of the school's selection process and/or methods?
3. What would you suggest to advance the school's selection process and/or methods?
Think of these memos as executive summaries for your supervisor, but use full sentences rather than simple word summaries. You may refer to any course-related materials that assist in formulating your responses, such as lecture slides, required readings, and textbooks. However, I believe external sources other than the course materials will not be helpful for you in writing good answers (e.g., internet searches). To make good case memos, pay close attention to the questions and the Case Memo Rubric, which will help you identify the directions of your answers. Also, be sure to provide the basis for your arguments and include references for information different from your original thought (you don't need to cite and put references for the cases themselves because you are exactly engaging in the cases). Each case memo should range from 2 to 3 pages, single-spaced, with a 12-point font to encourage concise analysis.
