Cultural Constructions of Gender states that: "Cross-cultural research suggests that gender and sexuality are far more fluid, far more variable, than biological models have predicted." (Pg.49, Kimmell, et.al.) Consider this statement in Lorber's article on page 61 in regards to Western society and the expectations of those that live in Western society versus what we've read regarding Hirja's and Berdache's for example. "The norms, expectations, and evaluation of women and men may be converging, but we have no social place for a person who is neither woman or man."(Pg. 61, Kimmell)
