Assignment Task
Please read the following scenario.
Ann works as a technician at Portico International, a UK-based manufacturing firm. She works in a team of seven people who prepare material for constructing bridges.
The team consists of six men and one woman. Ann works very hard in her role and as part of a team. In the manufacturing industry where it is mostly male dominated it is sometimes difficult for Ann as a woman.
Ann has come to you as HR manager complaining that she is being isolated from her team and the team members are not talking to her or involving her in conversations. It is a very uncomfortable situation for her to work in. Ann also states that she has been given work that is not challenging and that they make derogatory comments about women.
Ann's team members do feel awkward around her, because of the type of language they use when communicating. The team members have also commented to the team's manager that they have found Ann to be somewhat overly sensitive.
Ann had gone to complain to the team manager who is inexperience, and has poor interpersonal skills. His response was for her not to take things too seriously as this was most likely "office banter", and the culture of team, hence - "this is how we do things round here"
