ESSAY: Judging the value of artwork
Chose ONE artwork and answer the questions: Then, read the link below your chosen artwork. Answering the questions will allow you to delve into the deeper aspects of an artwork. This should be at least one page long, likely 2. Remember to answer each: these are based on a critic's opinion, then your own.
Definition of terms:
" aesthetically:
-having a set of principles concerned with the nature and appreciation of beauty, especially in art.
-the branch of philosophy that deals with the principles of beauty and artistic taste.
" socially: is it valued within society: here or in the country of origin?
ASSIGNMENT:
1. What is someone else's criteria for judging the aesthetic and social value of the piece? choose a review from an art critic, an article about a work of art, or a friend's opinion.
2. What is your criteria for judging the aesthetic and social value of the piece? Consider the first assignment you wrote, What is and Isn't Art? and
" Does it have to have a social/cultural meaning?
" Does it have to be worth a lot of money?
" Does it or the artist have to be well known?
