Problem 1: Create two noval terms that follow English phonotactics. Something that a 2-3 year old would make up like "wug"
Problem 2: Give definitions for these novel terms - one should be an object label (noun) and the other an action label (verb). For example, a new noun could be a piece of paper shredded into a long strip; a novel verb could be flapping an arm like a wounded bird.
Problem 3: Explain how you would introduce these new terms to a young kid. You may, for example, point to the strip of paper and remark, "Look at the wug." Instead, set up a pencil, a stick, and a strip of paper and instruct the youngster, "Give me the wug." Your method must include at least one cue from each of the three major categories we discussed in class: cognitive biases/cues (whole object constraint, learning categories, shape bias, mutual exclusivity), social biases/cues (understanding intention, joint attention, social referencing), and linguistic cues (syntactic bootstrapping).
Problem 4: Describe how a young kid might use each of the cues and biases stated in your methods in question (3). Explain how each cue and bias works in word learning and then how it would work in your example.
