Review the ESL virtual classroom by clicking on the resource in the topic materials. Explore the learning environment and observe the lesson.
For the group of students in the virtual classroom, create a new SIOP lesson plan that integrates language objectives, content objectives, and best instructional practices for ELLs, as well as authentic assessment. Use the SIOP Lesson Plan template located in the Student Success Center.
Choose a performance objective from the ELA Common Core standards to create the content objective for your lesson.
Select the English Language Proficiency Standards based on the needs of your students. Consider applicable language acquisition stages of development in the development of your plan.
Integrate the following:
1. Comprehensible input
2. ESL strategies ongoing, specific, and immediate feedback
3. Grouping structures and techniques
4. Building background and vocabulary development
5. Current materials for ELD instruction
6. Student prior knowledge
7. Student engagement
This assignment counts toward 2 hours of your practicum/field experience. Include this on your Clincal Field Experience Verification Form.
APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Etra NOTES from professor:For this week's assignment you will be in the virtual classroom. You will create a new SIOP lesson plan for these students. This can relate what you have just watched on the video or to something else. This is up to you. The college's assignment guidelines are not overally clear for this one. Make sure that you address the instructional strategies for ELL classrooms and the conditions under which they are best utilized. This assignment will be worth 2 hours of your observation/field experience. You don't need to record these hours. I have attached a SIOP lesson plan template here if you need one.
