Assignment: Statement of Teaching Philosophy
The internship semester is an opportune time to prepare a Statement of Teaching Philosophy. The intern has already built a foundation of theoretical studies and is now putting them into practice. This practice will provide the time for the intern during observations and practice teaching sessions to validate the underlying theories and adopt those which give substance to his or her philosophy. The Statement of Teaching Philosophy is a reflective exercise that helps the practicum intern put into words his or her ideas about teaching. He or she has the opportunity to express what teaching represents in his or her life. It can include different areas of teaching. For example, it can include philosophical orientation, research interests, classroom management techniques, the role of the teacher, and so on. It should include, at the very minimum, the role of the student and the role of the teacher in the learning process.
