Assignment:
You are a lieutenant in a medium-sized, suburban police department. You have been approached by a group of citizens from a neighborhood that has experienced an increased number of calls for service to the department. These calls for service have been generated in response to what appears to be minor vandalism to citizens' property, including vehicles, homes and surrounding properties.
Police-community relations has suffered over the past few years in your jurisdiction. After talking with the citizens, you feel that the creation of a Neighborhood Watch group may be a good step in trying to curb this vandalism and enhance community relations. You need to convince the Chief of this fact. To do so, you need to provide him with information on paper to this effect.
Your assignment is to write a proposal to the Chief of Police to create a neighborhood watch program in the neighborhood. Its creation could be the pilot for a city-wide neighborhood watch as well as the creation of a community relations unit within the department.
Your proposal should contain the following information. This list is not all inclusive but should serve as a starting point to create ideas for your proposal.
-The basis or need behind the request
-Personnel necessary to facilitate the department supporting the citizens
-How citizens will report information to the police
-How citizens will be trained to recognize suspicious and/or criminal activity
-What type of meetings will be necessary to support this group
-What groups will need to meet to facilitate the watch group
-How you will gauge the effectiveness of the watch group
The body of your paper should be at least 2 full pages in length, standard font, margins and double-spaced. Make sure to cite all references in the text and at the end in a reference section. APA style is used in the social sciences.
