Module Eight Activity Guidelines
Conveyor Belt Project Part 3
Prompt: For this exercise, you will complete a final exercise using the conveyor belt project case study found in the back of your textbook. Refer to pages 628-629 for details on this exercise. You will create a memo that addresses several questions. You will also be creating Gantt charts using MS Project as part of this activity.
Using your files from Part 2, input resources and their costs if you have not already done so. All information is found on Tables A2.10 and A2.11 on p. 627 and 628 of Project Management: The Managerial Process.
Prepare a memo that addresses the following questions:
1. Which, if any, of the resources are over-allocated?
2. Assume that the project is time constrained and try to resolve any over-allocation problems by leveling within slack. What happens?
3. What is the impact of leveling within slack on the sensitivity of the network? (Include a Gantt chart with the schedule table after levelingwithin slack.)
4. Assume the project is resource constrained and resolve any over-allocation problems by leveling out side of slack. What happens? What are the managerial implications?
5. What options are available at this point in time? (Include a Gantt chart with the schedule table after leveling outside of slack.) Note: No splitting of activities is allowed. No partial assignments (e.g., 50 percent). All resources must be assigned 100 percent.
Specifically, your final submission should include the following:
Gantt chartandscheduletableafterlevelingwithinslack
Gantt chart and schedule table after leveling outside of slack
A memo that addresses all of the questions above
Guidelines for Submission: Your memo should be submitted using these formatting guidelines: double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, with APA citations only if outside sources are cited. There is no minimum length for this draft; however, it should address all of the critical elements listed above. Also, include screenshots of relevant Gantt charts.
