Problem
A. First, draw a photo of some kind of animal. It doesn't have to be a goat-- any animal will do.
B. Next, you're going to load that animal up with 5 things you'd like to get rid of in yourself. It can be negative personality traits, tendencies, anything you'd like to get off of your shoulders--just keep it appropriate. List them right beside your animal.
C. For each thing on the list, I would like for you to go into some detail about how negative element affects your life. A few sentences of reflection. For instance, as sentence starters, you could say, "I would like to get rid of procrastination." And then go into some detail... "I tend to wait until the night before my work is due to start it, which causes me more stress. Without this tendency, I would feel a lot better about myself and my work, and not feel so stressed out. I turn this negative trait over to my scapegoat-animal." In other words, you are getting rid of something inside of you by symbolically giving it to something else.
D. Do this 5 times, so that you should have a list of 5 negative qualities or bad memories (that you feel you are to blame) of which you are purging yourself.
E. Lastly, explain why you chose the animal you did. Instead of a goat, maybe you chose a bear because bears are strong enough to carry the weight you just loaded it up with. Then explain why. Perhaps it implies that you see your list as something that is really weighing you down in your life. Or maybe you want it to your animal to be an eagle because eagles would carry your list far away. This would imply that you never want to see that list again. In other words, I want you to explain why you chose this animal, and how it relates to the negative stuff you're giving it.
So, quick breakdown: draw a photo of your animal. Check. Create a list of 5 things you'd like to be rid of in yourself then explain why. At least 3 sentences per item on the list. Check. Explain why you chose that specific animal. 3 sentences for that.
