For our essay, I would like you to choose someone to interview, toward a specific purpose. After the interview is complete, I would like you to write a well-organized, 3-5 page essay based on the information gained from your interview. This essay should ultimately make an argument toward a specific and clear thesis. For example, you may interview a grandparent in order to learn more about your family's history or you may interview an instructor/professional in the discipline in which you choose to work.
Although you will likely not have a clear picture of your thesis statement before you interview your source, make sure that you have a clear and specific argument based on the information you receive. In addition to turning in your essay, I will require a typed transcript of the interview. Although the interview can be as long as you want, I require at least three pages of this transcript to be turned in.
Some questions to get you started:
• Why did I choose this source?
• What do I want to know from my source?
• What about this person interests me most?
Although you must have at least ten questions prepared prior to the interview, feel free to let the interview veer in unexpected directions during your meeting.
In order to successfully complete this assignment, you must:
• Turn in a well-organized, 3-5 page essay (MLA format) based on the interview of your source.
• Have a clear and specific thesis statement.
• Use proper source citations.
• Include a 3-page (minimum) transcript of the interview.
• Have ten questions prepared prior to the interview.
