Discuss the below in detail:
Philosophy (and philosophical ethics) is very concerned with personal autonomy - our ability to be self-directing in the choices that we make. Though, there are a number of factors that go in to decision-making, both conscious and unconscious - money, our families, etc., are all overt forces that impact the choices that we make, but we're also informed unconsciously by past experience, emotional memory, etc.
In a medical context, we are very concerned about informed consent in medical research and treatment, with the goal of consent being a choice freed as much as possible from coercive forces. In light of the above discussion, is it possible to get consent free from the modifiers mentioned above? If not, is this genuine consent?
