Create a concept map outlining the structure of the nephrons

Assignment task: Nephron Structure and Function

Nephrons are the functional units of the kidneys. They play a crucial role in filtering and processing blood to produce urine. Each kidney contains millions of nephrons, which are vital to maintaining the body's fluid and electrolyte balance. A nephronconsists of two main parts: a renal corpuscle and a renal tubule. The renal corpuscle includes a tuft of capillaries called the glomerulus, which filters blood under high pressure, and a surrounding structure known as Bowman's capsule, which collects the filtrate. From there, the filtrate enters the renal tubule, where various segments perform reabsorption and secretion processes to regulate urine composition.

Create a concept map outlining the structure of the nephrons on Padlet. Include the following structures and theirprimary functions.

  • Afferent arteriole
  • Collecting duct
  • Distal convoluted tubule
  • Efferent arteriole
  • Glomerular capsule
  • Glomerulus
  • Nephron loop (descending and ascending)
  • Proximal convoluted tubule
