Case Study
Mike Woloshyn, a 66-year-old male client, was admitted to your medical unit with a diagnosis of chronic kidney disease secondary to hypertension. Today he reports sudden, acute pain in his left great toe.
Patient History
- Retired six (6) years ago from a CEO position at a large bank
- Married with two adult children
- Drinks approx. three (3) beer/day
- Eats a diet high in animal protein (i.e. steak)
- Moderately obese 220lbs, 5'10"
Assessment:
- VS: BP 148/82, HR 82, RR14, T 37.4, SpO2 99% on R/A
- Redness and swelling over the 1st metatarsophalangeal joint of the left great toe.
- Area is warm to touch
- Patient rates pain 8/10 on pain scale
The physician diagnoses the Mr. Woloshyn with gout. This is the patients first attack.
Question: Create a care plan for Mr. Woloshyn to help manage his gout while keeping in mind his other diagnoses. Include at least three (3) nursing diagnoses, three (3) goals, and three (3) interventions per goal.
