Courts decision in ferguson vs city of charleston

Assignment task:

I agree with The Supreme Court's decision in Ferguson v. City of Charleston. I feel it is extremely important for protecting the rights and privacy of pregnant women. As someone involved in the medical field and as someone whos been a patient before It stressed the importance of patient confidentiality, meaning women and everyone should trust that their medical information won't be used against them in legal situations. We have all been to the doctor or hospital we have all experienced situations where we trust our information is kept between us and the doctors. This trust is vital for good healthcare. The case shows the risks of policies that try to control women's actions. Although don't get me wrong I understand the goal of protecting unborn children is good, but it's extremely harmful using fear and punishment that can drive women away from seeking the care they need. A better approach would focus on support and treatment rather than punishment. Making the women feel like this is a safe place for them which in turn creates a better outcomes for mom and unborn child. Also id like to add that what counts as fetal abuse raises tough questions. Should the government tell women how to behave during pregnancy? Punishing women for things like drinking or not eating right could lead to rules that limit their freedom. I feel there needs to be balance, the rights of the mother with the health of the fetus.
