Counseling to help with the transition of divorce

Problem: Sandra is a 48 year old Filipino-American female who recently divorced. She is seeking counseling to help with the transition of divorce, and her "coming out", and the depression and anxiety that is a result of these life changes. She realized, after 25 years of marriage to a "wonderful, loving man" that she is a lesbian. She stated she always felt a "connection" with women, much stronger than with men. She had always been attracted to women, but felt that she was simply appreciating their beauty. She stated that her family (i.e., parents, children, ex-husband, and siblings) are refusing to talk with her because they disagree with her "decision" to be a lesbian. Sandra states that she misses them, but she has denied her true identity her entire life, and is ready to embrace who she is. In fact, in embracing her new identity, Sandra has become quite vocal in her community advocating for LGBTQ rights. She has decorated her vehicle with rainbow stickers and other pride-oriented items.
