Assignment task: Bouncing Back from Adversity
We covered the concept of resilience in Module 6. Much of our discussion focused on positivity (e.g., textbook Chapter 7), which includes Positive Appraisal Styles (e.g., growth mindset, the stress-as-your-friend perspective) as a key resource.
Individuals and organizations frequently discover they are not particularly or sufficiently resilient when situational demands call for it-e.g., when the stakes are high, the time is short, and the way forward is unclear. We saw this problem play out in several cases during the quarter, and you may have experienced it in your MGMT 305 project team at some point.
1. Use the OPM and course materials to provide a well-developed diagnosis of why project teams frequently have difficulty bouncing back from a traumatic event. Zero in on a seemingly typical process breakdown, describe it, and explain why it occurs. Cite your sources.
2. We watched and conversed about McGonigal's Ted Talk on stress. Show how three ideas she detailed can be applied to building more resilient project teams.
3. Use the OPM and course material (other than McGonigal's Ted Talk and our subsequent discussion) to develop and offer three first-rate recommendations for establishing a team's capability to exhibit resilience-and cite, explain, and apply principles from three valid sources (again, refrain from using the McGonigal material). For example, what positivity inputs or resources (e.g., positive emotions, mindfulness, psychological capital, etc.) discussed in your textbook provide valuable insights? Feel free to draw on material in other Modules of our Essentials of Management Unit.
