Contrast leader-member exchange-transformational leadership


Assignment task: Compare and contrast leader-member exchange and transformational leadership. Include a critique of how useful the theories are to a leader in a mock situation, and critique any research used for each theory. Conclude the analysis with a synthesis.  What is a set of that are suggestions for the leader based on the synthesis of the two theories you selected.

The scenario: The senior manager retired during COVID. There were some coworkers that clashed with her, so her departure was well received by some and of no concern to others. Her replacement was the manager just below her, who had come up through the ranks and was now in a management position. Under the tutelage of her predecessor, she had taken on some leadership characteristics that were undesirable. Being one of the in-group employees with the new manager, I recommended that she take a different approach with some team members than her predecessor.

It worked for a while; however, they eventually began to interact as they previously had. Each party complained about the other: one complained of being micromanaged and the other of the lack of productivity.
