Construction of Railway Line:
Earthwork
Earthwork in embankment is made up of soil from nearby borrowpits. The soil is deposited in layers of 25 cm and compacted at optimum moisture content, and each layer is compacted by rollers. The earth is deposited either manually or by dumpers, graders or dozers. The embankment is formed to a slope of 11/2 : 1 or 2 : 1. In cuttings, slopes of 1/2 : 1 to 1/8 : 1 are common, depending upon the type of the soil.
