Consider the process flow of Carey Insurance. 100 requests for new policies come in to a dispatcher per hour. The dispatcher sends the requests to the appropriate underwriting team.
There are 4 teams NE, NW, SE, and SW. Of the total incoming flow 10% go to NE, 20% go to NW, 30% go to SE, and 40% go to SW. After completing the steps with the underwriters, the requests go regional managers for the North and South. The NE and NW teams are part of the North region. The SE and SW teams are part of the South region. 20% of the policies in the North region must then go through an additional review step for quality control. We also have partial processing time and WIP data as follows: Processing time for the Dispatcher is 10 minutes. The underwriter at NE uses 8 minutes. The underwriter at SE takes 4 minutes, the Regional manager for the North uses 5 minutes, and the extra review step takes 6 minutes. In addition, we see that inventory levels for NW, SW, and S are 3, 2, and 6 respectively
