Consider the pipe and Venturi meter system shown in the three figures at a angle of 30° to the horizontal. The pipe and the Venturi meter in all three systems are identical, but the means of measuring the piezometric head (or pressure head) are different. The pipe diameter is D = 8 inches, while the diameter at throat of the Venturi is d = 4 inches. The fluid may be assumed to be water (specific weight, 62.4 lb/ft 3 ).
1.In the system shown in Figure a), a differential manometer is used with a manometer fluid of specific gravity, 0.8 , and a manometer deflection, hm = 26 inches is observed. Determine the discharge through the pipe using a discharge coefficient of 0.97 for the Venturi meter.
2.For the discharge found in part A, determine the difference ( Δh ) in the levels in the piezometers for the system shown in Figure b).
3.For the discharge of part A, determine the difference in pressure (in psi) between the upstream pressure gage (in the pipe) and the downstream pressure gage (at the Venturi throat).
