Question 1
In the news, you may often hear about one company trying to take over another company. This can be done in several manners. Conduct research to locate one business that has recently been taken over. How was the takeover conducted? How does this affect the economy?
Respond to this...In June 2017, Amazon acquired Whole Foods for the price of $13.7 billion through stock acquisition at $42 per share which was a 27% premium at the time of the announcement (Thomas, 2017).
The purpose of this conglomerate acquisition is to expand their "Prime" subscriber base in having grocery orders through the Amazon site and potentially being the supplier to their Amazon remote subscriber self-serve stores.
In a stock purchase, all of the assets and liabilities of the seller are sold upon transfer of the seller's stock to the acquirer. As such, no tedious valuation of the seller's individual assets and liabilities is required and the transaction is mechanically simple. The acquirer does not receive a stepped-up tax basis in the acquired net assets but, rather, a carryover basis. Any goodwill created in a stock acquisition is not tax-deductible (Macacabus, 2017).

Question 2
When looking at women's literature of the 20th century, one can easily see some of the struggles that women were still fighting to overcome as they shared their creativity with the masses. Some of those struggles included making their voices known in a seemingly male dominated world.
Virginia Woolf's "A Room of One's Own" tackles some of the topics that may have been considered taboo during a time when women were just gaining their footing in society. Do you think that Woolf's essay still rings true in some ways, or has society come full circle when it comes to so-called gender roles?
Respond to this... There is no doubt in my mind that Virginia Woolf felt every bit oppressed in her time. I think I too would have questioned why women were portrayed in the manner they were.(Puchner,2017) However, times have certainly changed. Women, particularly American women have overcome much of what has oppressed them. Do women truly know equality here in the United States? I would say, yes with some exceptions. Women as consumers are charged more for the same goods used by men. Just go to Target or Wal-Mart and price "womens" shaving cream, then price "mens" shaving cream. Women's shaving cream will be eighty cents to an entire dollar more. That is just one example. Women are now free to chose who they marry, can work any job, even run for president. The roles of women have changed for the better, however there is still work to be done. Women still don't receive equal pay for equal work and qualifications, though the wage gap is getting smaller.(Brown & Patten, 2017) Though we have made great strides, I hope we don't lose sight of how far we have come.
