Conduct a functional analysis and determine segment needs

Problem

Sydney School of Business and Technology is an Registered Training Organization (RTO) and has been located in Burwood, NSW. The college is catering a number of courses for international students.

As per the operational plan of the RTO, the management has started working on improving Wide Area network.

You have been working as ICT Manager and have been approached by CEO to help determining best-fit topologies for wide area networks

The budget of $20,000 has been suggested for the improvements.

You are required to determine needs of WAN, create WAN specifications and report best-fit topology options for WAN

Activity I: Develop a report to determine needs of WAN

i. Identify different LAN, wireless local area network (WLAN) and virtual private network (VPN) segments of the proposed WAN
ii. Conduct a functional analysis and determine segment needs
iii. Estimate traffic content, volumes and organisational usage
iv. Develop an organisational WAN functional matrix according to organisational requirements

Activity II: Create WAN specification

i. Determine the resource requirements for each LAN, WLAN and VPN segment.
ii. Consider and report how the features of the physical environment affect the WAN design.
iii. Identify the WAN service that will cater for the amount and the type of estimated traffic.
iv. Include redundant links in the proposed WAN connectivity, and prevent disruption to main link.
v. Identify the viable WAN service.

Activity III: Report best-fit topology options for WAN

i. Explain suggested Topologies for LAN, WLAN and VPN
ii. Why these topologies are the best fit for WAN
iii. Cost of installing these topologies
iv. Configuration requirements
v. Evidence of its best fit (if possible)
