(a) (i) Compute the mean, median, and mode.
(ii) Looking at the distribution of the spending, which measures of location do you think are best and which worst? Why?
(b) Calculate the first quartile, third quartile, range and the interquartile range.
(c) Compute the variance, standard deviation and the coefficient of variation. Interpret the result of the standard deviation.
(d) Are the data skewed? If so, how?
(e) If the water authority wants to develop a water reduction plan and asks the student how much water can be consumed. The student replies, “Almost certainly not more than 500 gallons”. On the basis of the results of (a) and (c), evaluate the accuracy of the statement.
