Problem
Moist air from the Pacific Ocean is advected over the Andes Mountains and undergoes an irreversible pseudoadiabatic process during the ascent. The surface pressure on the western side is 1000 hPa, the temperature is 22.6oC, and the dewpoint is 19.7oC. The minimum pressure at the summit is 610 hPa, and the surface pressure in La Merced, Peru is 830 hPa. Compute the following based on the assumption that the equivalent potential temperature given by (7.55) is conserved:
i. The initial mixing ratio and relative humidity of the air before ascent.
ii. The temperature at the summit.
