Compute the moment of inertia about the z-axis


Three point masses each of mass m are connected by two thin rods each of mass M and length L. The central mass is at the origin and the z-axis is directed out of the page.

a) Compute the center of mass vector r_com.

b) Compute the moment of inertia about the z-axis.

c) Use the parallel axis theorem and the results above to compute the moment of inertia about an axis that runs through the center of mass and parallel to the z-axis.
