Response to the following problem:
A simply supported rectangular beam (solid) of length L = 100 mm and width b = 10 mm is made of a [±45/02]S carbon-epoxy (AS4-3501-6; assume F4 = F5 = F6) laminate with properties given, with each lamina 0.125 mm thick. A transverse load P is applied at the midspan, perpendicular to the laminate.
Compute (a) the deflection as a function of P and (b) the maximum load that can be applied to the beam for first ply failure using the maximum stress criterion.
