For example, experience derived from open-ended interviews and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) gives a more elaborated picture of the child's functioning identified from the parent's and teachers' points of view. These tools assist in establishing not only the difficulties a child faces but also the resources and ways of dealing with those difficulties.
The role of the ecological theory, which focuses on the relationships between the developmentally disabled child and their environment, is significant in thoroughly assessing the child's situation. For instance, ecomaps can show the different systems that may affect a child's life, such as family, learning institution, and community (Family Finding and Engagement Tools, 2020). Ecomaps greatly help define supportive and nonsuppurative relationships within a particular community, which is why interventions are more focused. If the child has discipline problems with the teachers, the ecomap will show whether this results from home influence or peer pressure.
For Claudia, quantitative measurement tools like the NICHQ Vanderbilt scales for ADHD (American Academy of Pediatrics & National Institute for Children's Health, 2002) and qualitative measurement tools will be used to get a complete picture. Applying multiple tools is practical because each addresses different aspects of Claudia's experience.
