CTA Instructions for Hollitz
To prepare for this essay, you need to actively read Hollitz, Chapter 9, "Popular Culture as History: the Cold War Comes Home". It is imperative that you understand Stephen J. Whitfield's (the chapter's 'spotlight' historian) arguments concerning the Cold War's affects on American Pop Culture.
Part I: Complete a CTA on the secondary source, "The Culture of the Cold War" by Stephen J. Whitfield. You can access CTA guidelines and sample by clicking: How to do a Critical Thinking Analysis
Make sure you have reviewed my comments on your previous graded CTA (Paper 1). Make note that author's main conclusion does not ask how the events of the article concluded or what you conclude. Instead, you are to determine the author's main argument. What conclusions does the historian make in regards to the article? What's the author's thesis statement?
Part II: Next, as you read the primary sources in Hollitz, determine which 3 primary documents most strongly support Whitfield's thesis (argument/author's conclusion) and any supporting arguments author might provide. List these primary sources at the end of the CTA with a detailed explanation for each. Explain why you believe these 3 documents best supports Whitfield's thesis and evidence.
OR,
Determine which 3 primary documents mostly refutes and/or modifies Whitfield's thesis (argument/conclusion).
