Compare your predictions with the measured fatigue crack


Consider the crack growth results shown in Fig. 11.10 for the alumina silicon carbide composite at 1400 °C. Using the procedure outlined in Section 11.2.2 predict the crack growth characteristics under cyclic loads on the basis of the static crack growth results by assuming that the mechanisms of static and cyclic fracture are the same at the elevated temperature. Compare your predictions with the measured fatigue crack growth rates for both frequencies and discuss possible reasons for the discrepancies, if any, between your predictions and the experimentally determined growth rates.
