Problem: Describe and compare gender relations in China, Greece, and Rome. Describe marriage practices, daily life, women's rights and privileges, male's rights and privileges, gender roles and expectations. Some questions you could examine are: what did it mean to be a man? What was considered masculine? What did it mean to be a woman? What was considered feminine? How did the society imagine each? (Remember that in some places both men and women were enslaved- how would this fact shape the lives of these men and women? In other words, be careful not to generalize about all men or all women but give a sense of the range of male and female experiences.) If you had to be a woman in one of these societies which would you choose and why?
