It is proposed to improve the takeoff performance of a single-engined aircraft fitted with a 50-in-diammeter propeller, by replacing the propeller with one having twice the disk area, but the same thrust of 660 lb (2.934kN) at 60 knots in sea-level-standard air conditions. Compare the following characteristics of the two propellers using ideal (Froude) theory: a) inflow factor a, b) airspeed through the propeller disk, c) mass flow through the propeller disk, d) slipstream speed, e) propulsive efficiency.
