United States constitution has provided with a Federal government with three branches; legislature, executive and judiciary. Arizona has also a government and its branches. Like Federal government, it has three main branches; legislature, executive and judiciary.
The national legislature of US is known as the congress. It is represented by Senate and House of Representatives. In the same way, Arizona has bicameral legislature. The upper house is Senate and the lower house is Arizona House of Representatives. The US congress has 100 senators and 435 House of Representatives. Arizona state legislature has 30 senators and 60 representatives. The most important duty of US congress as well as the Arizona State Legislature is to make laws. The US congress meets in Washington D.C while Arizona state legislative sessions are held at Phoenix, the state capital. Each US senator has six year term and they were elected by popular vote The age limit to become a senator must be over thirty years. A member of the House of Representative serves two years and was elected by popular vote. Representatives must be over 25 years of age. The Arizona senate members and representatives have term limits for two years.
The executive branch of the US government consisted of President, his advisors, and federal agencies. The head of the Arizona executive is the governor who is elected for a term of four years. Other elected executive officials include the Secretary of State, State Treasurer, State Attorney General, Superintendent of Public Instruction, State Mine Inspector and a five member Corporation Commission. These officers have a term of four years.
The judicial branch of the US government consists of Supreme court and other lower federal courts. Supreme court is the highest judicial body in US, while Arizona supreme court is the highest court in the state. The Arizona judiciary composed of three courts of general jurisdiction- the supreme court, the court of appeals and the superior court. The judges are appointed by the governor on the basis of merit.
