MACBETH ESSAY
Choosing from one of the topics below each student is to write an essay on Macbeth. The essay will be a minimum of 3 full pages and will have direct evidence from the play. This evidence will be in the form of direct quotes and specific examples. A minimum of six direct quotes is required. Students will write in present tense only. Students will also avoid the following: contractions, first and second person, and slang expressions.
1. Who is more to blame for Macbeth's downfall, Macbeth or Lady Macbeth? Refer to specific lines or events to support your answer.
2. Compare and contrast the characters of Macbeth and Macduff as soldiers, husbands, and leaders of men.
3. Describe Macbeth's changing attitudes toward the witches.
4. Is Macbeth's fate determined by destiny or free will?
