1) Compare and contrast Marx's idea of emancipation to the concepts of freedom discussed in Locke, Rousseau and Mill.
2) Discuss Marx's critique of capitalism and explain why he predicts its inevitable demise? Do you think Soviet Communism was true to Marxism? Why or why not?
3) How is Rousseau's social contract different from that of Hobbes and Locke? Discuss their differing views of human nature, history, and the purpose of government.
4) Compare and contrast Burke's views on the "rights of man" with Nietzsche's critique of "slave morality." In what way can Burke and Nietzsche be thought of as conservatives?
