Assignment task:
Write an 800 word research paper on what philosophy is today. Comment on specific aspects of philosophy: a) goals/intentions, b) methodology, c) people involved, and/or d) results. Some questions you might want to consider: Why does philosophy exist today? What do you think is admirable about philosophy's goals? What about its methodology? What is problematic? What would you want to know more about? What about the people involved? What are they like? What is good and not so good (or outright bad) about philosophy and philosophers? What should philosophers do better (in terms of goals, methodology, people involved, and results)? What did they do well that they no longer do well? Would you become a philosopher? Why/why not?
